Camp
I went out to a place called Staveley Camp this weekend with a big group of people. It's a little place at the foot of the Southern Alps where you can rent cabins. Think beautiful mountains, lots of food (not kidding, seriously five or six meals a day, it was crazy), lots of music (people brought guitars), and for those of you from camp, full-contact no-rules daylight wakey-wakey. I know- the stunned silence, the pure genious of it. Amazing. For those of you who don't know wakey-wakey, it is a famous (or infamous) game from the camp where I used to work. The game is somewhere between flashlight tag and hide-and-seek, and once you are tagged you have to go to "jail" until you're freed. The game we played this weekend was in the sun, so there were no flashlights involved, but we made up for that particular shortcoming by introducing the concept of "not going quietly to jail." Imagine a tall, burly guy kicking and screaming and being carried by his arms and legs across the field. It would be an understatement to say that it was a hilarious game. No pictures, though, carrying camera while being in danger of a tackle didn't seem like the brightest idea ever.
The camp itself. Funny-shaped little cabins, aren't they?
The mountains. Need I say more?
We were a solid two hour drive from the city. A two hour drive from civilization, through places populated exclusively by sheep, and the trailer with all the gear broke. It turned out just fine and we were able to fit everything into the cars, so it was actually pretty funny.
